Striding Edge
Grade: 0.5 Length: 650m
Location: Helvellyn Ascent: 120m (394ft)
Striding Edge is probably the most famous place on any mountain in lakeland. It's ascent is rated as the best way to summit Helvellyn, and its lack of difficulty means that many people do traverse this rocky ridge. There are several options when walking along the edge, you can either scramble over the top of the ridge, or follow the easier path that skirts around the difficult parts. Another advantage of summiting Helvellyn via Striding Edge is that you can start the walk from several different locations, such as Patterdale - Grisedale - Hole in the Wall, or from Glenridding and Birkhouse Moor.
